THE MEANING OF BRIDEGROOM: A NOTE TO MEN

A bride is defined as “a woman on her wedding day or just before and after the event.” A groom on the other hand is one who “prepares or trains someone for a particular purpose or activity.” The same word groom is used to describe the job of one employed to take care of horses. In this sense, grooming is to “brush and clean” the coat of animals such as a horse, dog, etc. Grooming is therefore a lifelong WORK!

Whenever we hear the word BRIDEGROOM, the same understanding is adduced as one who “prepares or trains someone for a particular purpose or activity” similar to the work of BRUSHING and CLEANING a horse or a dog.

For instance, in the world of celebrities, there are those hired to groom celebs for public appearances. Groomers are committed to preparing a person to be a holistic package to meet public expectations. Therefore, when we say BRIDEGROOM, we’re simply pointing to the fact that whatever you see on the BRIDE, there is a GROOM responsible for it. This includes the total appearance of the BRIDE; the wedding gown, the crown, the footwear, the makeups, the scent, etc. except for her character, are all the work of the man who is to marry her.

While the word BRIDEGROOM appears to last only during the occasion of a marriage ceremony until declared MARRIED, the actual sense of responsibility of a GROOM is a life long commitment. The actual grooming starts after marriage when your BRIDE is home with you as wife. This is a full time responsibility calling for your attention! You’ll understand it this way –

When you buy an animal like a horse or a dog; these animals have lived previously with their owners, and have had some basic grooming by their owners. But if you are going to get these animals behave or relate to you in a certain way, prepare to GROOM them to fit in your expectation.

This is exactly how the relationship between a man and his wife is supposed to be. Your wife, the BRIDE had received some grooming from her parents. She lived with them in a different environment at different times from yours. Your bride is now a package of the parent’s grooming. How she talks, how she relates to others, her dressing, her understanding, her cooking skills, etc. are all as a result of the GROOMING she received from her parents plus the influence of her socializations.

Mr. BRIDEGROOM, this is the fact of your wife, and you should have be diligent enough to check all these to be sure of what further work or grooming to perform on her even before marriage. No woman is bad or good enough to marry and vice – versa.

As a GROOM, understanding your job description is key to enjoying marital bliss. Know your job and deliver. The very things you complain about of your wife could just be the key areas for your GROOMING. Instead of concentrating on how bad your wife is, be a man, and do your job as a BRIDEGROOM. This is why I stated earlier that the job of a GROOM is not limited to events of grooming for the day of marriage. The work of Grooming is much more needed after marriage to help your wife fit into your ideal home and lifelong goals.

When your wife doesn’t submit to you, your children raised by her would not do differently neither.

BRIDES, submit yourselves to your GROOM to groom you to fit in his life, mission and home. When you humble yourself enough for this, only then at the end of your grooming you’ll graduate to become the WIFE of your HUSBAND, the WOMAN of your MAN, and the MADAM of his home forever!

Those who take this counsel seriously will have peace in their marriage and home. They’ll flourish together until the day of departure.

Just to finish up this piece properly, let me leave a few notes for men.

1. Men, know that your wife or girlfriend never finish dressing up! You’ll need the virtue of patience to groom her in this aspect.

2. Understand that the wardrobe of your wife or girlfriend is never full! Regardless of the number of dresses she has, she’ll still have no dress to wear on certain days and occasions. She’ll need to conduct a real diligent search in her wardrobe. This too needs your patient grooming.

3. Men, accept that you’ll have to repeat yourself multiple times to be heard by your wife or girlfriend. You’ll need the same patience of a groomer in grooming a horse or dog to become excellent, and the same patience of one grooming someone to become a celebrity.

4. To live long and in good health, do not see with your two eyes, and do not hear with your two ears. Turn your areas of complains into your wife’s or girlfriend’s grooming needs!

Blessed and happy are the men who heed to this counsel, and to be envied are the women who submit themselves to be groomed in their husbands’ home.

“Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7)
