This book is a great awakening for us all in the face of moral corruption and impunity. It addresses those things that we consider sweet but killing us all. The things that give us pleasure and makes us feel good and yet are sinful when passed through the morality, legality, societal values and commonsensical screening test.
The Apostle Paul explains something very important to us,
“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.” (1 Corinthians 10:23)
In Genesis, God told Adam,
“…Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)
Unfortunately, man could not resist the temptation of food – in fact, man became gluttonous, eating almost everything including the fruit of the forbidden tree. In Genesis 3, they took of it and ate. Probably, they remarked, this is very Sweet, but it was actually, a Sinful Sweet! Their Sinful Sweet eventually led to their death, although Adam physically lived for 930 years – he was spiritually dead! Thus, “we don’t die; we kill ourselves.” What have you been eating?
In Sinful Sweets, you will discover the very things that appear and look so sweet to us; pleasant to the eye, tasty to the tongue. You will come to understand how these pleasant and tasty sweets have spoiled us or are spoiling us. We will learn how harmless they appear and look, sound, taste or feel to us but which are factors weakening our foundation in the Lord. The Preacher says
“You who are young, make the most of your youth. Relish your youthful vigor. Follow the impulses of your heart. If something looks good to you, pursue it. But know also that not just anything goes; you have to answer to God for every last bit of it.” (Ecclesiastes 11:9 MSB)
Go on! Enjoy Sinful Sweets! But remember Ecclesiastes 11:9!
